ABOUT JESSICA

Counseling that helps clarify who you are- and who you want to be.

I’m Jessica Scott Smith, MEd, LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing online counseling and career counseling for adults and adolescents ages 16+ throughout Texas.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I believe some of our biggest questions deserve more than a quick answer.

Who am I now? Why do I keep falling into the same patterns? What do I actually want? Is it too late to change direction?

These questions can show up during a major transition- or even when everything looks relatively fine from the outside but something inside you has started asking for more.

I’ve spent more than 15 years supporting people through personal and professional growth across higher education, nonprofit, and government settings. Again and again, I saw how interconnected our lives really are.

A career decision can become a question about identity. A difficult relationship can reveal patterns we’ve carried for years. Divorce, grief, an empty nest, or an unexpected transition can leave us wondering who we are when a familiar version of life changes.

This perspective continues to shape how I practice counseling today.

I’m interested in the whole picture- not just what is happening, but what it means to you, what patterns may be underneath it, and where you want to go from here.

You’re allowed to outgrow an old version of your life.

Changing direction doesn’t mean everything that came before was wrong.

Sometimes growth simply means recognizing that who you are today may need something different than who you were five, ten, or twenty years ago.

Counseling gives us room to figure out what that different might look like.

MY APPROACH TO COUNSELING

Counseling is a way to slow down, reflect, gain clarity, and move toward the life you really want.

Most people come in feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what to do next. We start by slowing everything down. We talk through what's happening, identify what's most important, and look for patterns or obstacles you may not have noticed. I help you sort through all of that so you can make decisions that feel authentic and aligned.

My approach is grounded in Individual Psychology (Adlerian Therapy) and Positive Psychology. I believe we are shaped by our experiences, relationships, and the meaning we make of them—but we also have the capacity to grow, make new choices, and create meaningful change. Rather than focusing only on what isn't working, we'll also pay attention to your strengths, what matters most to you, and the kind of life you want to build.

I often work with people who are navigating important life transitions. They may be considering a career change, feeling burned out, adjusting to a new stage of life, or trying to make an important decision. They're not looking for someone to tell them what to do- they're looking for a trusted partner to help them think it through.

As you gain insight and clarity, we work together to turn that understanding into practical next steps—so you can move forward with greater intention, confidence, and a stronger sense of who you want to be.

Understand the Patterns

We’ll get curious about the experiences, relationships, expectations, and beliefs that have shaped how you see yourself and move through the world.

Reconnect With Yourself

We’ll identify your needs, wants, values, and voice- especially if they’ve gotten buried beneath responsibility, expectations, or everyone else’s needs.

Decide What Comes Next

Whether change is something you chose or something life handed you, we’ll work toward a next chapter that feels more intentional, grounded, and genuinely yours.

EXPERIENCE THAT SHAPES MY WORK

More than 15 years spent helping people navigate what comes next.

My perspective has been shaped by years of working alongside people during periods of growth, transition, and decision-making.

Work affects identity. Relationships influence decisions. Confidence shapes opportunity. Family expectations can influence what we believe we should want. And sometimes a question that begins with “What should I do next in my career?” becomes a much more meaningful question:

“What do I want my life to look like?”

Today, I bring that experience into counseling with adults navigating not only career decisions, but relationships, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, grief, divorce, boundaries, and major life transitions.
