Good Faith Estimate & No Surprises Act

Your Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate

Under federal law, individuals who do not have certain types of health insurance coverage or who choose not to use their insurance to pay for care generally have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of their healthcare services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the expected cost of non-emergency healthcare services upon request or when qualifying services are scheduled.

A Good Faith Estimate provides an estimate of the reasonably expected charges associated with your care based on information known at the time the estimate is created.

Federal guidance requires providers to make information about the availability of Good Faith Estimates easy to find on their websites.

When You May Receive an Estimate

If you are uninsured or plan to pay for services yourself without submitting a claim to your health plan, you may request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services.

Federal rules also establish timelines for providing an estimate when services are scheduled sufficiently in advance. For example, when qualifying care is scheduled at least three business days ahead, a written estimate generally must be provided within the applicable federal timeframe.

Therapy Costs

The current fee for an individual therapy session is:

$165 per session

The actual total cost of therapy will depend on factors such as the number and frequency of sessions you choose to attend.

Because the length of psychotherapy treatment cannot always be predicted in advance, a Good Faith Estimate may reflect an anticipated course or period of treatment based on information reasonably available at the time.

A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate, not a contract, and does not require you to receive services from the provider identified in the estimate.

If Your Bill Is Higher Than Your Good Faith Estimate

If you receive a bill from a provider or facility that is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.

For additional information about your federal rights under the No Surprises Act, visit:

You may also request additional information about obtaining a Good Faith Estimate directly from Jessica Scott Smith.

Fees, Insurance & Payment

The current fee for individual therapy is $165 per session.

Jessica Scott Smith does not currently accept insurance and is considered an out-of-network provider.

Upon request, appropriate documentation may be available for clients who wish to independently seek possible reimbursement through out-of-network insurance benefits.

Reimbursement is determined solely by your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed.

Clients are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly to understand their benefits, deductibles, reimbursement policies, and any requirements for out-of-network mental health services.

Fees, policies, and service availability may change. Current clients will be informed of applicable changes according to practice policies and professional requirements.

Telehealth & Texas Residency

Jessica Scott Smith provides online counseling services to appropriate clients located in Texas.

For telehealth therapy, clients must generally be physically located in a jurisdiction where Jessica is legally authorized to practice at the time the professional service is provided.

Being a resident of Texas does not necessarily mean therapy can be provided while you are temporarily located in another state or country.

Telehealth may not be appropriate for every person or every clinical situation. Suitability for online therapy is determined individually as part of the clinical and informed consent process.
